
Mountain Hawks to open spring break with two matches in South Carolina

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team will head outdoors for the first time this spring when the Mountain Hawks head to South Carolina for two matches over spring break. The Mountain Hawks will play College of Charleston Sunday morning in Charleston before heading to Conway on Monday to battle Coastal Carolina.
Lehigh has rebounded from an 0-3 start to win four of its last five matches. Last weekend Lehigh had its three match winning streak snapped by NJIT on Saturday, but bounced back to dispose of La Salle 4-0 on Sunday.
Freshman Elizabeth Nowak delivered the lone point versus NJIT with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles. The Mountain Hawks then swept away La Salle, winning two doubles matches and three singles flights and leading in all the matches that were not finished. Junior Sibel Can, senior Grace Lin and sophomore Catherine Meighan posted straight set victories in singles play at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 flights. Lin added a doubles win alongside junior Leigh Friedman at No. 3 while Nowak and sophomore Casey Zhong clinched the doubles point with a win at No. 2.
Nowak and Zhong are 6-2 in doubles action this season at the No. 2 flight. Can leads Lehigh with five singles wins, including a 3-0 mark at the No. 2 flight.
The Mountain Hawks will open their South Carolina trip with a 9:30 a.m. match at College of Charleston. The Cougars are 4-5 on the season and are coming off a 5-2 win over Davidson on Wednesday.
On Monday, Lehigh will battle Coastal Carolina at 2 p.m. The Chanticleers have won three straight matches after a 1 -4 start, defeating Wofford, Ashland, and most recently North Carolina A&T.
Before both school take on Lehigh, College of Charleston will host Coastal Carolina Saturday in Charleston.
Following its spring break trip, Lehigh will open Patriot League play at Loyola on Saturday, March 16, with match time set for 3 p.m. from Baltimore.
