Class Day Race Writeup

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following the fall season and annual Class Day Regatta for Lehigh rowing, Steven J. '69 & Karen A. Lee head rowing coach Peter Costas would like to share the following message to the Lehigh rowing community:
In the fourth year of the reimagined approach to Class Day, it was great to see the event grow in alumni participation, competitive energy, and costume creativity again from Class Day 2024. Congratulations to the winning boat "Team Starbucks", which included alums Baxter Reihman '25 and Rachel Estey '22.
It's unique to be able to combine the enthusiasm of alumni, current student-athletes, coaches, parents, and members of the Lehigh community all around racing out on the water. For our freshmen and walk-ons, it's another step into the depth of what they've joined with the tradition of growth. Nothing replaces meeting the people who have been a part of moving things forward.
Class Day and the Lehigh Rowing Team Tailgate were both wonderful ways to turn the page on a successful Fall Season. We saw our Women's team continue to grow in depth and competitiveness. We stacked a four with our top performing athletes for Housatonic and Charles and they returned from each with silver medals and an 18th place finish and requalifications respectively. Our Women's 2nd Varsity 8+ saw a strong performance at Head of the Schuylkill with a finish in the Championship 8+ that was third among 2vs and ahead of regional rivals George Washington, Temple, and Drexel's B entries.
For our Men's Program, the junior class is our largest, and their maturity and character while accepting the responsibility that comes as upperclassmen has been central to a competitively successful fall. Despite a complicated trip at Head of the Charles, the Varsity 8+ remained consistent in focus and approach, taking gold at Head of the Housatonic, and Bronze behind Drexel and UPenn at Head of the Schuylkill.Â
Excited to get to work this winter with the promise of growing competitive potential from the program and a unified and supportive tone from the full rowing program.
