CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The fall campaign for Lehigh rowing continued this weekend at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Mountain Hawks had three entries in the event, those being their women's four+, men's eight+ and men's four+.

The first race of the weekend for the Mountain Hawks was their women's four+ in the Women's Club Fours race at 1:04 p.m. on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks placed 18th out of 53 boats in the race, finishing with a time of 18:57.408. Lehigh's top-half finish automatically requalifies them for next year's race.

"Electric atmosphere at the Charles for the women's four," said Steven J. '69 & Karen A. Lee head rowing coach Peter Costas. "A perfect characterization of this fall was seeing the videos come in from teammates who made the trip screaming to urge them on from each of the six or seven bridges on the course. There's a lot of competitive passion on this team, and that passion prepped this lineup for high-pressure conditions through a highly competitive practice environment. It was special to see Ava Albano steer a great course and navigate some congestion to pass boats, and they cranked it through the back half led by a former alpine skier and general daredevil at stroke seat in Madison Goldstein."

Sunday's day of racing began for the Mountain Hawks with the Men's Collegiate Fours at 1:19 p.m. Lehigh placed 28th out of 40 boats, clocking in at 17:32.667. The Mountain Hawks then competed in the Men's Collegiate Eights race at 3:38 p.m., finishing 22nd out of 42 boats with a time of 15:21.017.

"Great effort from both the men's entries," said Costas. "They embraced the challenge of working from the back of the pack and created the opportunity to race along with the national standard for speed. I'm pleased with what this step means in terms of embracing a challenging environment by attacking with an aggressive pace. Everything we hope to accomplish this year is still available to us. Schuylkill next weekend is another opportunity for continued progress."

The Mountain Hawks return to the water on Saturday, October 25 at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia.
