BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 4 Lehigh takes to the road for its final two regular season games, beginning with a clash with Colgate Saturday at Andy Kerr Stadium. The Mountain Hawks moved to 10-0 for the first time since 2001 with a 38-3 victory over Holy Cross in the regular season home finale. Lehigh rushed for a season-high 343 yards, its third 300-yard rushing game of the season, while quarterback Hayden Johnson threw three touchdown passes. The Mountain Hawks' defense allowed just 215 yards of offense, including just 20 on the ground, as Lehigh did not allow a touchdown for the second straight week. Colgate had its two game winning streak snapped with the Raiders dropping a 59-42 shootout at Lafayette.
A defensive unit that ranks statistically among the nation's best has keyed Lehigh's 10-0 start. The Mountain Hawks lead the Patriot League and rank in the top five nationally in rushing defense (67.5), scoring defense (12.8), sacks (37) and total defense (273.3). Lehigh has allowed just 16 points over its last four games. The Mountain Hawks have held eight of their 10 opponents under 100 rushing yards including three under 40 yards on the ground. Lehigh held Holy Cross to three points, 20 rushing yards and 215 yards of offense last week.
Lehigh has not allowed a touchdown to its last two opponents, marking the first time in 46 years that the Brown and White kept opponents out of the end zone in consecutive games. In 1979, Lehigh shut out Davidson 10-0 on Oct. 13 and then won 16-3 at New Hampshire the following week. Lehigh did not allow a touchdown in four of its 13 games that season, with the Engineers finishing as the Division I-AA national runner-up.
Junior running back Luke Yoder was the senior member of a devastating 1-2 punch in the backfield for the Mountain Hawks in 2024. Yoder rushed for 1,014 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. A second team All-Patriot League honoree, Yoder was Lehigh's first 1,000-yard rusher since Dom Bragalone in 2017. With 142 rushing yards against Holy Cross, Yoder went over 1,000 for the second straight season, joining Bragalone as the only Mountain Hawks with multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons. He has five 100-yard rushing games this season, with a career-high 174 yards at Bucknell and 173 yards the following week against Penn. Yoder's 1,044 rushing yards rank seventh in the FCS and rank 10th on Lehigh's single-season list.
With its win over Holy Cross, Lehigh reached the 10-win mark for the 11th time in program history and the first time since the 2012 squad finished 10-1. The Mountain Hawks now have six 10-win campaigns since 2000. With one more win, Lehigh would secure its sixth 11-win season in program history and its first since 2011.
With the 161st edition of college football's most-played rivalry on the horizon, Lehigh will look to continue its run of success in the game prior to the Lafayette game. The Mountain Hawks have won 16 of their last 22 games the week prior to the Rivalry, including victories over Georgetown in 2021 and Colgate in 2022 and 2024. During that span, Lehigh is 4-4 versus Colgate the week before the Rivalry, with wins in 2013, 2014, 2022 and 2024, and losses in 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2023.
Colgate will play its final two games at home, beginning with Lehigh's visit. The Raiders fell to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the Patriot League with a 59-42 setback at Lafayette last weekend. Colgate put up more than 400 yards of offense and first-year wide receiver Matt Fogler caught three touchdowns on the way to his second straight Patriot League Rookie of the Week award. The Raiders turned the ball over three times and their defense gave up 533 total yards to the Leopards, including 260 rushing yards to Kente Edwards. Colgate has used four quarterbacks, with Jake Stearney taking the majority of the snaps. Stearney has thrown for 1945 yards with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions. Danny Shaban leads the rushing attack with 396 yards and five touchdowns. Reed Swanson has stepped up at receiver with Treyvhon Saunders out. Swanson has 48 catches for 778 yards and seven touchdowns. Dane Picariello leads the defense with 71 tackles.
