Mountain Hawks Suffer First League Loss At Hands of Navy

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 match to visiting Navy Saturday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. Lehigh's No. 3 doubles team of sophomore Hamsa Javagal and first-year Bella Peters picked up a victory for Lehigh's lone win of the day.
The Mountain Hawks are now 4-6 overall and 1-1 in Patriot League action.
Navy (13-4, 1-0 PL) won the doubles point with victories at the top two flights. Javagal and Peters won 6-4 over Hanna Elks Smith and Kate Lee at No. 3 to give the Brown and White a victory.
In singles play, Lehigh won first sets at No. 1 and No. 5 but Navy benefitted from a walkover at No. 6 and posted straight set victories at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 to build a 5-0 advantage.
Javagal won the first set from Emily Tannenbaum 7-5 at the top flight but the Midshipman came back to win the second 6-4 and took the third set 10-point tiebreak by a 10-8 score.
Junior Anushka Dania won her first set at No. 5 against Sylvia Eklund before Eklund came back to win the second 6-2 and the tiebreak 10-6 to close out the match.
The Mountain Hawks will travel to Colgate on Sunday to face the Raiders at 2 p.m. at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse, N.Y.
