Hamilton, NY – The Mountain Hawks made their first postseason appearance in eight years but were beaten by one of the country’s top teams. Fourth seeded Lehigh fell 4-0 to top seed and No. 7 ranked American, Saturday afternoon at Tyler’s Field.

The Eagles played a near flawless game, and jumped on the Mountain Hawks early. Maureen Daniel scored two minutes into the match off a penalty corner and then Denise Infante scored off another corner two minutes later. American would take a 3-0 lead when Maggie Hall scored in the 15th minute and the Eagles were up three at halftime.

Lehigh made adjustments in the second half and were able to hold American to one goal in the second half, a Javiera Villagra tally in the 50th minute. The Mountain Hawks were unable to put anything past Eagles goaltender Allison Fayfich, who made four saves to record the shutout.

“We’re not satisfied, we played to win today,” said coach Julie Mazer. “But getting here was definitely a big step forward for the program.”

Jeanine Hoff was brilliant in goal for the Mountain Hawks, making nine saves. American out shot Lehigh 17-6 for the match.

The Mountain Hawks season ends with a 9-10 record, a two game improvement over last season. Lehigh won a Patriot League game for the first time since 2001 and advanced to the tournament for the first time since 1996.
