BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball's defense of the Patriot League title begins on Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST from Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri as the Mountain Hawks open the 2026-27 season against the (RV) Saint Louis Billikens.
Monday's game will be the first-ever meeting between Lehigh and Saint Louis. The Mountain Hawks last faced off against a team from the Atlantic 10 conference in 2024 when Lehigh fell at Dayton 86-62.
Should Lehigh win, it would be the Mountain Hawks' first win over an opponent from the Atlantic 10 conference since defeating Fordham 81-63 in 2012. It would also be Lehigh's first win over an upper mid-major or better opponent since defeating Mississippi State 87-73 in 2016.
Lehigh enters the 2026-27 campaign off the heels of its fourth Patriot League championship last season. The Mountain Hawks defeated Boston University 74-60 in front of over 4,300 fans at Stabler Arena in the championship game before falling to Prairie View A&M in the NCAA Tournament First Four in Dayton, Ohio. Lehigh returns Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year Hank Alvey (15.2 ppg) as well as double-digit scorers in Joshua Ingram (10.5 ppg) and Edouard Benoit (10.2 ppg). The Mountain Hawks were picked to finish in second place in this season's Patriot League Preseason Poll.
Saint Louis is coming off a 29-6 overall record and a first-place regular season in the Atlantic 10 conference. The Billikens lost in the A10 semifinals but received an at-large bid and a number nine seed in the NCAA Tournament. SLU defeated Georgia 102-77 in the first round before falling to eventual national champion Michigan in the second round of the tournament. Saint Louis loses its two top scorers from last year in Robbie Avila (12.8 ppg) and Dion Brown (11.3 ppg) but returns two double-digit scorers in Trey Green (10.7 ppg) and Amari McCottry (10.5 ppg).
