
Mountain Hawks suffer first loss in conference play on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team (4-2, 3-1) suffered its first league loss of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks suffered a 6-1 defeat to Navy outside on the Ulrich Courts. With the loss, the Brown and White are still searching for their first-ever win against the Midshipmen.
Starting out of the gate, Navy took the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches. At the No. 3 spot, Junmoke James and Anshika Singh battled back from an early deficit but ultimately fell 6-3 in their match. At the No. 1 spot, Paula Gonzalz and Lehighanna Moskos dropped a back-and-forth 7-5 match with the Mid's top pair.
The lone win for the Mountain Hawks came from freshman Rachel Buchinsky at the No. 5 spot. The first-year player continued her tremendous start by winning an instant classic, a three-set victory over Tina Li, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 10-4. With the win, Buchinsky is now 6-0 on the season in singles play.
The senior Gonzalez lost a heartbreaker in a three-setter at the No. 1 spot. After taking the first set, the senior dropped the second set and fell 10-8 in the third and final set and suffered the gut-wrenching loss, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.
At the No. 2 spot, the sophomore Imhof lost 6-3, 6-4 to Meghana Komarraju, while the second-year player James fell 6-1, 6-3 to Miranda Deng.
Up next, Lehigh will host the Army West Point Black Knights next Saturday at 2 PM outside on the Ulrich Courts. Next Saturday's match will also serve as Senior Day.
