Conley announces incoming class of 2021

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh head rowing coach Brian Conley announced the incoming women's rowing class of 2021 on Thursday. The class includes student-athletes from all over the country who are set to enter the program next fall.

"We are very excited about this class," said Conley. "This class is our largest, strongest and most diverse geographically that we have had in recent memory. The nine athletes joining the team will enter our strong culture and add a great deal of speed, the moment they take a stroke as Mountain Hawks. Our current team is excited about where our team is headed and these new athletes will only make our program that much better."

Hannah Davis - Portland, Oregon - Woodrow Wilson High School
Out of Portland, Oregon, Davis rowed for Rose City Rowing Club for two years. She lettered in rowing for the spring season of 2016 and attended the 2016 Northwest High Performance Camp. Davis rowed in the Novice Eight, which finished second at the Northwest Youth Championships in 2014-15. The following year, she placed fifth in the Grand Final at the youth championships and came in 34th at the Head of the Charles Regatta. In 2016-17, Davis finished second at the San Diego Fall Classic and placed 26th at the Head of the Charles. Strong in the classroom, she earned academic letters in the ninth and 10th grades and was a member of the National Honor Society in grades 11 and 12. Davis was the first chair tenor saxophonist in Jazz Band for two years and the first chair clarinetist in Symphonic Band for three years.

Ellie Falk - Sewickley, Pa. - Quaker Valley High School - Engineering
Falk was a multi-sport athlete at Quaker Valley High School, competing in both rowing and ice hockey. She was a member of the Three Rivers Junior Rowing team in the spring of the ninth and 10th grades, and the fall of 11th grade. Falk was a member of her school's co-ed ice hockey team in the ninth and 10th grades, serving as a captain in the ninth grade. She was also a member of Pittsburgh Penguins Elite (AAA girls ice hockey) every year of high school, serving as assistant coach in the 11th grade. Her team made it to the USA Hockey Girls Nationals in the ninth, 10th and 11th grades. A member of the National Honor Society, Falk was a National Merit Runner-up for 11th grade PSAT scores. She was a member of the Peer Help Desk at QVHS (peer tutoring center) in the 11th grade and part of Global Scholars in 2015-16. Falk was part of Key Club, a volunteering club, at Quaker Valley and she completed the ACE (Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering) internship her final two years as well.

Mariel Hoeschel - Hockessin, Del. - The Charter School of Wilmington
A four-year varsity rower for Wilmington Youth Rowing Association, she was a co-captain as a senior. In 2013-14, she won the Head of the Christina (JV Four), the Baltimore Invitational (JV Four and Second Varsity Eight) and placed second in the Mid-Atlantic Championships (Second Varsity Eight). The following year, she finished third at the Steve Neczypor Memorial Regatta (Varsity Eight) and won the Mid-Atlantic Championships (Second Varsity Eight). In 2015-16, Hoeschel's Second Varsity Eight placed second in the Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta while her Varsity Eight crew came in second at the Baltimore Invitational. She was also part of the Varsity Eight which won the Baltimore Invitational. Then in 2016-17, Hoeschel placed third at the Head of the Christina (Varsity Four). Strong in the classroom, Hoeschel made the Honor Roll every semester of high school. She was inducted into the National Honor Society, was president of volunteer council and was selected to be a senior mentor.

Lily Kuhn - Montclair, N.J. - Montclair High School
Kuhn was a multi-sport student-athlete at Montclair High School, competing four years in rowing and two years in soccer. Rowing in the Varsity 2016-17, Kuhn took first place in the Varsity Four at the Kingshead Regatta, earned third in the Petite Finals at the Varsity Eight at SRAA Nationals (Scholastic National Championship), took sixth in the Varsity Eight at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta and finished 32nd in the Varsity Eight at the 52nd Annual Head of the Charles. Two years prior in the Junior Varsity Eight, Kuhn came in first in the Garden State Championships, City Championships, Stotesbury Cup Regatta and SRAA Nationals. She also finished first in the Varsity Eight at the Kingshead Regatta. Kuhn won the Most Improved Female Athlete Award (crew) in 2015 and earned the Community Service Award for three years.

Reilly Kyle - Winnetka, Ill. – New Trier Township High School
A standout rower, Kyle was an SRAA (Scholastic Rowing Association of America) Scholastic National Championship winner (seven seat) in 2016. She also took first place at the Midwest Championships in 2016 while finishing second a year prior. Busy off the water, Kyle has been a member of Safe Rides, which gives New Trier students an option to get a safe and free ride home on weekends from a safe ride representative. She's also a member of Food Taxi, which delivers food from advisories to schools in the city, and International Club, which helps educate the student body on various cultures. Kyle has been a consistent member of the honor roll, and she passed the Spanish Biliteracy test with all exceptional scores as well.

Gia Lacalamita - Eastchester, N.Y. - The Ursuline School
A decorated coxswain, Lacalamita joined the Pelham Community Rowing Association in January of 2016. In 2015-16, she was part of the Novice A Eight, which came in second at the Long Island Junior Championships and finished eighth overall at the NYSSRA Championships. So far in 2016-17, Lacalamita has finished second at the Head of the Riverfront (Master Eight), fourth at the Head of the Passaic (Junior 1V Eight) and 18th at the Head of the Fish (Junior 1V Four). She also completed at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta as a member of the Junior 1V Eight. Lacalamita also took part in cheerleading at The Ursuline School, earning a regional championship and multiple bids to Nationals during her tenure. In the classroom, Lacalamita has been a student ambassador, chosen based on strong academics and leadership qualities. She is also a peer minister, which includes working with underclassmen by leading retreats and working to help develop younger students spiritually. In the community, Lacalamita took part in the Warm Hands/Warm Hearts Club in 2015-16, meeting monthly and cooking for the Mount Vernon Soup Kitchen. She's also involved in Social Action, organizing and running fundraisers to benefit various charities.

Alie MacVicar - Tallahassee, Fla. - Leon High School
A four-year varsity team member with Capital City rowing, MacVicar was voted team captain in 2016 and 2017. She has competed in at least 30 regattas, including the prestigious Head of the Charles, Head of the Schuylkill, Head of the Hooch, Tennessee and US Rowing Southeast Youth Championships. In 2016-17, MacVicar took first place in the Youth Lightweight Four and third in the Youth Eight at the First Coast Head Race. A year prior, she finished third in the First Coast Head Race (Youth Eight), 18th out of 51 in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta (High School Varsity Eights), first in the FSRA North Florida District Championships (Second Varsity Eight) and fourth in the US Rowing Southeast Regional Championships (Youth Lightweight Eight). In 2014-15, MacVicar came in second at the First Coast Head Race (Youth Eight), 15th out of 47 in the Head of the Schuylkill (High School Varsity Eights final), first in the FSRA North Florida District Championships (Junior Eights) and first in the FSRA State Sweet Championships (Junior Eights). Meanwhile, in 2013-14, MacVicar finished fourth out of 33 in the Head of the Hooch Regatta (Youth Novice Eights) and first in the US Rowing Southeast Junior District Championships (Junior Eights final). Strong off the water, MacVicar was in the Pierian Chapter of the National Honor Society. She was also a member of the Science National Honor Society, History National Honor Society and Rebus Gestis (Latin Club). She was an AP Scholar with Honor while also taking part in the Mosaic Literature Magazine and Fashion and Design Club. MacVicar was also a City of Tallahassee Lifeguard.

Maxine Manville - Scotch Plans, N.J. - Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School
A four-year varsity athlete and crew team captain, Manville was part of the Varsity Four which took eighth at the Head of the Schuylkill in the fall of 2016 while also taking fourth at Navy Day. In the previous spring, Manville's Varsity Four finished fifth in its heat at the US Rowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships and came in first at the Overpeck Regional Youth Regatta. Manville rowed in the Second Varsity Four at the Mercer Lake/ISA Sculling Championships, taking fourth place in its heat. Early in 2016, Manville finished sixth out of 62 at the Main Line Slide while in the fall of 2015, her boat came in second at the King's Head Regatta, third at Navy Day and 16th out of 44 at the Head of the Schuylkill. In the spring of 2015, Manville's Varsity Four finished in third place at the Cooper Cup. Also strong off the water, Manville was an AP Scholar with honors, member of the French National Honor Society and a member of the Academic Honor Roll all four years of high school.

Susan Westman - Orland Park, Ill. - Culver Academies
A decorated student-athlete, Westman garnered the All-Midwest Academic Athlete Award. On the water, she competed with the Novice Eight at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships in 2013-14, coming in fourth place. She was also part of the Freshmen Eight at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships, finishing fifth. The following year, Westman came in first in the Second Varsity Four at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships while placing fourth in the Junior Eights. Then in 2015-16, she rowed with the Varsity Eights, which came in seventh at the Midwest Championships. Off the water, Westman was an AP Scholar with Distinction, Wendy's High School Heisman School winner and garnered honorable mention laurels on the US Rowing Scholastic Honor Roll.
