Lehigh wraps up fall schedule at Frostbite Regatta Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a successful intrasquad race at the Head of the Halloween, the Lehigh rowing team wraps up its fall schedule at the Frostbite Regatta Saturday. The regatta is a 2,000 meter race and will take place on Mercer Lake in Windsor, New Jersey as the Mountain Hawks look to end the fall on a high note.
Â
"Saturday will give the team a taste of the speed we need to have and help the novice rowers appreciate the head-to-head racing that happens in the spring," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "I think this year, the team wants to walk away with some medals, but the focus is going to be to gain as much race experience as possible of sitting on the line. The moments right before a start can be the most nerve racking. Once the race starts, muscle memory kicks in."
Â
Most recently, the Mountain Hawks held Class Day as part of its Head of the Halloween Regatta. The juniors came out on top with a time of 10:27.30. It was a strong race heading into Saturday's Frostbite Regatta.
Â
"Finishing the fall with a 2,000 meter race will definitely bring some high spirits as we enter the winter months, but the ability to walk away with good results will help the momentum of the team heading into the erg season," said Conley.
Â
Earlier in October, Lehigh finished in the top half of its heats in both the Men's Collegiate Fours and Women's Club Fours at the Head of the Charles, guaranteeing an entry into next year's prestigious regatta.
Â
"This group is really energized by the improvements that they have seen themselves on the water, results, on the ergs and in the weight room," said Conley. "Improvement is the best motivator of any athlete and it really just helps to perpetuate our culture."
