HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Mountain Hawks dropped a back and forth first set and could not recover as Colgate took the match in straight sets Friday night at Cotterell Court. After taking the first set 25-22 the Raiders went on to take the other two 25-9 and 25-22 to close out the match. With the loss Lehigh drops to 10-11 on the season and 3-3 in the Patriot League.
“We came out a little flat and we seemed to get frustrated,” head coach Jenny Maurer said. “We struggled to pass the ball consistently and we were way to predictable.”
Lehigh started off the first set on a 4-0 run, but it wouldn’t be long until things were tied up at eight. The rest of the set was a battle between both teams and after the score was tied 16-16 Colgate pulled ahead for good and went on to claim the set.
The Mountain Hawks came out flat in the second set and the Raiders were able to take control and secure the set.
Lehigh was able to rebound in the third set, but Colgate had too much momentum and was able to hold on for the win.
The Mountain Hawks attack was led by sophomore Angelika Kopacz who finished with a team-high10 kills. Junior captain Brittany Dickinson finished with a match-high 20 assists and defensively the Mountain Hawks were led by freshman Margy Action who tallied 10 digs.
Lehigh will stay on the road as it travels to Bucknell for a match at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Check back to Lehighsports.com for the latest news and results on your Mountain Hawks.
