On the women’s side, sophomore Melanie Rolish made a sparkling debut winning both the 200 IM and the 200 breast. Her time of 2:25.10 in the 200 breast established a new Jacobs Pool record. Rolish’s sister Allison also had an impressive debut winning the 1000 and 500 yard free. Another Lehigh freshman, Claire Winiarski won the 200 fly in 2:13.36.
For the Lehigh men, sophomore Dan Johnson won both sprint events, taking the 50 free in 21.50 and the 100 free in 47.17. Senior Tom Gilbert won the 200 back in 1:59.24 and took second in the 200 IM.
“It was a very competitive meet,” said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. “The women really stepped up and were competitive with a scholarship program, while the men took pride in dominating the sprints, IM, backstroke and breaststroke. Depth is a little bit of an issue, but things are starting to come together.”
The Mountain Hawks will return to the pool next weekend when they travel to Navy for a three team meet with the Midshipmen and Colgate. Lehigh and Colgate will square off on the men’s side and all three teams will battle on the women’s side. Action gets underway at 12:00 from
