Mountain Hawks drop five game heartbreaker to Colgate

Hamilton, NY – The Mountain Hawks suffered another tough loss Saturday night, rallying from a two games to one deficit to force a deciding game before falling 3-2 to Colgate. Game scores were 25-30, 30-24, 30-28, 21-30 and 15-12 as Lehigh dropped its ninth straight match and fell to 2-19 on the season, 1-9 in the Patriot League. Colgate improves to 5-15, 2-8 in the Patriot League. 
After starting off hot, the Mountain Hawks were forced to play catch up after they fell behind 2-1. Lehigh won the fourth game handily 30-21 and had an early lead in game five before the Raiders rallied and the Mountain Hawks were unable to recover.
 
Michelle Schwendenmann led the Mountain Hawks with 29 kills. Jill Racketa chipped in with 16 kills and Morgan Volkart had 12. Freshman Kathleen Lafferty picked up  a season high 61 assists. Defensively Racketa led the way with 23 digs. Nikky Barnes added 15.
 
Colgate was led by Allie Nichols and Laurel Oliver who tallied 17 kills apiece.
 
The Mountain Hawks look to get back on track next weekend, when they wrap up their home schedule with games against Army Friday night and Holy Cross Saturday. Friday's game gets underway at 7:00 and will be broadcast on the Lehigh website at lehighsports.com.
