Lopes, Rogers Win Titles at Season-Opening Princeton Open

PRINCETON, N.J. – Lehigh men's wrestling officially opened its 2025-26 campaign with a contingent of 22 wrestlers at the Princeton Open Sunday at Jadwin Gym. Sophomore Matty Lopes (133) and junior Rylan Rogers (184) won individual titles to lead the Mountain Hawks, with Lopes competing unattached at the event. Lopes and Rogers were two of six top-six place winners for the Mountain Hawks at the season-opening tournament.

Lopes opened his tournament with a fall and posted two decisions to reach the finals against Army's Ethan Berginc, who defeated Lopes twice last season. This time, Lopes used a first period takedown and third period reversal to claim a 5-4 victory.

Rogers began his day with two technical fall victories, then defeated Lehigh teammate Jack Wilt 6-1 in the semifinals. In the finals, Rogers faced TJ McDonnell of Oregon State and won a 2-0 decision behind an second period ride out and third period escape.

Wilt and sophomore Jared Schoppe gave Lehigh three of the top four place winners at 184. Schoppe had a win by major decision and a fall before losing to McDonnell in the semifinals. He claimed third place by medical forfeit over Wilt, who placed fourth.

At 174, sophomore Zeke Dubler finished third with a second period fall over Army's Andrew Christie in the third place match.

Graduate student JT Davis reached the semifinals at 197, ultimately finishing in fourth place.
Â
Senior Carter Bailey and deferred first-year Seamus Mack competed at 141, with Bailey going 3-2 and Mack winning one bout.

Lehigh had three entrants at 149 with sophomore Matt Repos winning four bouts and junior Kelvin Griffin and first-year Jadon Skellenger both winning one.

Sophomore Griffin Gonzalez went 3-2 at 157, while graduate student Zac Martin also competed.

At 165, junior Owen Quinn dropped both of his bouts.

In addition to Dubler, Lehigh had six other wrestlers entered at 174. First-year Duncan Christensen picked up four victories, sophomores Justin Onello and Richie Grungo and first-year Dom Federici all won one bout. Senior Keegan Gagnon and sophomore Liam Gil-Swiger also competed.

Senior Dontae Hoose and junior Remy Brancato-Roed both went 1-2 at 197.

Lehigh will be busy in Bethlehem next weekend. The Mountain Hawks will face Duke and Virginia Saturday at Journeymen WrangleMania at Liberty High School, and then will move to Freedom High School Sunday for the Journeymen Collegiate Classic,
