Mountain Hawks Wrap Up Lehigh Hidden Dual

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's tennis team opened its 2024 fall season this past weekend at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center, hosting Seton Hall and Army West Point in the Lehigh Hidden Dual.
Lehigh opened competition on Saturday with a doubles match against the Pirates, suffering a 4-0 loss as Seton Hall won every set. The Mountain Hawks closed out day one of the Hidden Dual with a 6-3 loss in singles play against the Black Knights.Â
First-year Alianna Shyani picked up the first win of the fall season at the No. 2 flight, defeating Jenna Sabile in three sets, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 10-6. Seniors Hamsa Javagal and Allyce Gaborik also picked up wins. Javagal bested Julia Kelly at the No. 3 flight in three sets after falling 6-3 in the first set and winning 6-3, 10-5 in the final two sets. Gaborik also won in three sets at the No. 5 flight, dropping the first set 6-0 and winning the final two sets 6-2, 10-5.
Lehigh opened up day two of the Hidden Dual with a 5-4 loss to Seton Hall in singles play.
First-years Shyani and Skye Yonehara tallied wins as Shyani defeated Imogen Brooker at the No. 2 flight 6-3 and 10-5 after falling 6-1 in the first set. Yonehara recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win over Aili Hietala at the No. 7 flight. Javagal picked up a win out of the No. 3 flight, defeating Isabelle Einess 7-5, 6-0, and sophomore Giselle Vlassis won in three sets after falling 6-4 in the first set and battling back to take a 6-4 and a 10-4 win in the final two sets.
Lehigh suffered a 4-0 loss in doubles play against Army to close out the Lehigh Hidden Dual after the Black Knights won every set 6-3.
The Mountain Hawks will be back in action Sept 27-29 when they head to Annapolis, Md., to play in the Navy Invitational.
