Mountain Hawks Drop 5-2 Decision To Monmouth

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's tennis returned to action following a 1-1 weekend to begin their spring season. The Mountain Hawks welcomed the Monmouth to the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center on Wednesday evening, falling to the Hawks by a score of 5-2.
The night began with doubles play for Lehigh, who dropped a closely-contested point to Monmouth. Matt Kleiman and Marc Blekhman dropped their match at number one 4-6 while Aristotelis Bezianis and Jackson Morash evened the score 1-1 with a win 6-4 over Monmouth's Diego Laporta and Gabriel Busato at number two. However, Monmouth's Gabriel Berner and Adam Hillerby earned the doubles point for their team by defeating Sean Jaeger and Jordan Paul 6-4.
After conceding the opening doubles point, the Hawks went on to clinch the dual meet victory by earning wins in the first three finishing matches. Monmouth's Mateo Bivol got things started with a 6-0, 6-3 win at number one over Kleiman while Berner defeated Paul 6-3, 6-1 to go up 3-0 in the dual. Hillerby won his match against Blekhman shortly after, clinching the dual meet victory for Monmouth.
Despite the decision of the dual meet already decided, the two sides played out the final three matches of the night. The next match to finish was at number six, where Monmouth added another point via a 6-4, 6-3 win for Laporta over Morash. However, the Mountain Hawks earned wins in the final two matches courtesy of a win by retirement for Jaeger and a super tiebreak win for Bezianis at number four.
The Mountain Hawks will hit the road on Saturday to travel south for a dual meet against the Drexel Dragons. The matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. in Philadelphia.
