Mountain Hawks cruise to 192-70 win over Loyola

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's swimming team captured a dominant 192-70 win over Patriot League newcomer Loyola on Saturday at Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawks won 14 swimming events in the 16-event meet as a new pool record was set in the 800 yard freestyle relay.
The combination of Kelly Carroll, Cora Summerfield, Carolyn Koch and Courtney Patterson finished the 800 free relay in 7:47.98 to set a new standard for Jacobs Pool and claim first place in the event.
Patterson led the Mountain Hawks with three first-place finishes. The sophomore earned her wins in the 200 free (1:53.44), 500 free (5:05.84) and 200 individual medley (2:10.30). Patterson also anchored the winning 800 free relay team.
Juniors Alissa Leung and Mary Samuels, as well as freshman Kaitlyn Ruffing, claimed two wins a piece for Lehigh. Leung won the 100 backstroke in 58.96 and 200 back in 2:07.27. Samuels claimed titles in the 200 yard fly (2:05.54) and 100 fly (59.27). Lehigh also took second place in each fly event. Ruffing finished first in the 50 free (24:01) and 100 free (52.75).
Summerfield claimed a win in the 1000 yard freestyle, clocking in at 10:41.43. Junior Madeline Smith followed in second place with a mark of 10:52.79.
Junior Kimberly Weyand won the 100 breast in 1:08.41, while sophomore Melissa Feeney took the 200 breast in 2:27.59.
The quartet of Leung, Weyand, Samuels and Ruffing finished first in the 200 yard medley relay with a mark of 1:47.49.
The Mountain Hawks will host Bucknell on January 25 before splitting their squad on the final day of the regular season as some Lehigh swimmers will compete in the Navy Invitational on February 1 and others will compete in a dual meet at Drexel.
