Mountain Hawks wrap-up fall at Big Green Invite

HANOVER, N.H. – Lehigh wrapped up its fall men’s tennis season this past weekend at the Big Green Invitational, hosted by Dartmouth at the Boss Tennis Center. Head coach Dave Shook brought four underclassmen players, who are expected to be key contributors in the spring for one final opportunity to get fall matches in. All four Mountain Hawks picked up at least one victory in the three-day event, led by freshman Edgars Rauza who won his first two matches on Saturday to reach the quarterfinals at Flight B singles.
Rauza was impressive in opening round victories over Charles David Mathieu-Poulin of McGill (6-3, 6-1) and Elan Evans of St. Francis (6-0, 6-2). The Latvia native couldn’t get past Harvard’s Liinus Hietaniemi in the quarters however, as the Finnish national prevailed 6-1, 6-2.
Sophomores Troy List and Collin Laffey represented the Mountain Hawks in Flight A singles, List dropped his opening round match to Dartmouth’s Andrew Malizia, but bounced back to defeat Kirill Kasyanov of Sacred Heart 6-1, 6-3 in consolation action. Laffey earned a first round victory, downing Dahnladi Robinson of St. Francis, 7-6, 7-6, but dropped his next two matches to players from the host Big Green.
Freshman Leland Richardson played in the same B singles draw as Rauza, and after dropping his opening match defeated David Orbuch of Dartmouth, 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles action, List and Laffey represented the Brown and White at Flight A, while Richardson and Rauza teamed in Flight B. Both squads won opening round matches before bowing in round two.
The Mountain Hawks will continue training throughout the winter in preparation for the spring season, which begins in late January.
