
Mountain Hawks post 15 stroke improvement on day two of UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate

PALM CITY, Fla. – The Lehigh men's golf team shaved 15 strokes off its opening round total to shoot 294 on day two of the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate, Monday on the Osprey Course at Martin Downs Golf Club. All six Mountain Hawks shot between 73 and 75 on Monday as Lehigh remains in eighth place out of nine teams at 603 (309-294).

Junior Johnny Hsu and senior Billy Johns led Lehigh on Monday with rounds of one over par 73. Hsu carded two birdies and 13 pars in his second round and is tied for 39th place at seven over par 151 (78-73). Johns carded three birdies, and after starting on hole 10, played his second nine holes in one under par. He is tied for 45th place at 152 (79-73).

Sophomore Owen Quinn remains Lehigh's low player through 36 holes as he is tied for 27th place at 147 (72-75). Quinn made two birdies in his second round.

Junior Lee Hammerschmidt and sophomore Ryan Kelly both shot 74 on Monday. Kelly led all Mountain Hawks with four birdies on Monday and is tied for 58th place at 156 (82-74). Hammerschmidt made a pair of birdies and was one under on the front nine and sits in a tie for 53rd place at 154 (80-74).

Sophomore Chris Pollan is competing as an individual and also scored well on Monday, posting a 74 as he sits in a tie for 62nd place at 160 (86-74).

A second round score of nine under par 279 moved host UNCG into a tie for the team lead with Seton Hall at eight under par 568. The Spartans and Pirates hold a four stroke lead over Elon.

Gregor Tait of Seton Hall holds the individual lead at eight under par 136 (67-69). Tait holds a two stroke lead over Max Sear of West Virginia and Bryce Hendrix of UNCG.

The UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes of play. Lehigh will once again be paired with Western Carolina and George Mason and will be teeing off from the 10th hole beginning at 7:30 a.m.
