
Quinn paces Mountain Hawks in opening round of spring campaign

PALM CITY, Fla. – In its first action of the spring season, the Lehigh men's golf team opened up action at the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate with a round of 309 Sunday on the Osprey Course at Martin Downs Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks sit in eighth place out of nine teams following the opening round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament.
Sophomore Owen Quinn led the Mountain Hawks on day one, shooting even par 72 to sit in a tie for 12th place. Quinn led Lehigh with 12 pars and also made three birdies on the front nine.
Junior Johnny Hsu was Lehigh's second-lowest player on Sunday, shooting 78 to tie for 50th place. Hsu was even through nine holes thanks to three birdies but hit a rough stretch on the back side where he shot 42 over his final nine holes. One stroke behind Hsu is senior Billy Johns, who is currently tied for 56th place after a 79. Johns birdies the par four fifth hole but shot 41 on the front before settling down in his final nine holes.
Also competing for Lehigh's scoring team are junior Lee Hammerschmidt and sophomore Ryan Kelly. Hammerschmidt carded an opening round 80 and is tied for 56th place, while Kelly sits in 63rd place following an 82.
Sophomore Chris Pollan is competing as an individual and sits in 65th place after shooting 88.
Seton Hall and Elon are tied for the team lead with scores of one under par 287, while Boston College sits in third place, one stroke off the pace.
William Harwood of Elon shot six under par 72 to take the individual lead by one stroke over Gregor Tait of Seton Hall.
The UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate continues Monday with the second round beginning at 7:30 a.m. from Martin Downs Golf Club. Lehigh players will go off the 10th hole, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Mountain Hawks will play with Western Carolina and George Mason, who was disqualified from the team race with only three players posting scores on Sunday.
