Hours after defeating rival Lafayette to claim its fourth Patriot League tournament title in five years, Lehigh learned its NCAA tournament fate on Sunday night. For the second time in three years, the Mountain Hawks are headed to Amherst, Massachusetts to play Stanford on Friday afternoon. Rounding out the four team regional are a pair of familiar northeast region foes in host Massachusetts and Princeton.

For the fourth time in five years, Lehigh is headed to the NCAA Regionals as the Mountain Hawks captured their ninth Patriot League tournament title with a 10-3 victory over arch rival Lafayette in the seventh and final game of the tournament, Sunday at Kaufman Field. The top three hitters in the Lehigh lineup, senior Kate Marvel and freshmen Carly Potock and Alex Cueva, combined to go 9-for-14 at the plate with six RBI while junior Lisa Sweeney dealt seven innings of three-run ball to pick up her 25th win of the season.

Four former Lehigh greats have been elected to the Roger S. Penske/Lehigh Athletics Hall of Fame.  Formal induction took place on Lehigh’s Packer Campus on Saturday, May 10, 2008.  Basketball standout Greg Falkenbach ‘72, four-time EIWA Champion Colin Kilrain ’82, cross country/track and field star Tim Steele ‘73, and two-way football standout Pete Williams ’58 are the newest members.  Falkenbach and Kilrain comprise the class of 2007, while Steele and Williams make up the class of 2008.  Formal induction for the Class of 2007 was held off for one year because Commander Kilrain was out of the country serving his duties as Captain of Special Forces for the Navy Seals.

Senior Dave Nakasone and sophomore Manuel Schubert have been named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I All-Academic wrestling team, the NWCA announced on Thursday. Both wrestlers enjoyed success both on the mat and in the classroom in 2007-08 and are two of 88 Division I wrestlers named to the team. To be eligible wrestlers must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and be a NCAA qualifier or have been a starter and won 60 percent of his matches.

As Lehigh attempts to capture its fourth Patriot League tournament championship in five years, three Mountain Hawks were honored for their work in the classroom, as seniors Megan Conrad and Kate Marvel and junior Lisa Sweeney have been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II first team; it was announced on Thursday.  The honor is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) whose schools are in the region.
