Three members of the Patriot League champion Lehigh women’s golf team were honored for their academic work Monday as the league announced its academic award winners in women’s golf. Seniors Ginette Schapira and Chelsea Michalek, along with sophomore Kelly Moylan were named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, while Schapira was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Senior Chelsea Michalek capped her Lehigh career by winning individual medalist honors at the inaugural Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship. The Patriot League’s Outstanding Female Golfer of the Year, Michalek added another honor Thursday as she was named Patriot League Player of the Month for April.
The inaugural Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship went down to the wire Sunday at the Bucknell Golf Course but Lehigh held off Bucknell by three strokes to capture the team title. Senior Chelsea Michalek posted a five stroke victory to be the first Patriot League individual medalist as Lehigh finished the tournament at 315-317-309-941.
With senior Chelsea Michalek leading the way, the Lehigh women’s golf team is off to a strong start after day one of the inaugural Patriot League Championship on the Bucknell Golf Course. Michalek holds a seven stroke lead over two players after the opening 36 holes, while as a team the Mountain Hawks lead the four team field by five strokes over second place Bucknell.
The Lehigh women’s golf team will head to Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday for the inaugural Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship on the Bucknell Golf Course. The Mountain Hawks will face the host Bison as well as Holy Cross and Navy in their quest to win the first-ever Patriot League women’s golf title.
