Spring has finally sprung, even though the weather isn’t exactly cooperating, and to usher in the new season this week’s Lehigh Sports Magazine television show features two springtime classics. March 24, our most recent edition of the show, second year volleyball head coach Jenny Maurer, a proud new parent, will get everyone up to date on the status of her young team and she’ll preview their upcoming fall campaign.

This year's Eugene M. '35 and Harriet Henry Fall Sports Banquet was held on Sunday, January 13, at the University Center, and was sponsored by the Lehigh Athletics Partnership.  Three Mountain Hawk athletes captured awards on the afternoon, in a program that included dinner, presentation of awards, and reflections from head coach Jenny Maurer and members of the team.

The Patriot League announced its Academic Honor Roll for volleyball on Wednesday, and four Lehigh players were named to the list.  A total of 46 student-athletes were honored with the distinction, led by American with a league high ten players.  Navy’s Rachel Dougherty was named the Patriot League Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Head coach Jenny Maurer saw a lot of ups and downs during her first year at the helm of the Mountain Hawks.  Taking over a team that featured just one player with a collegiate win on her résumé, Maurer guided the team to a 5-22 (2-12) record and broke several losing streaks along the way.  While the season was a nice start for Maurer, she knows it’s just one of many steps that have to be taken to rebuild the program into a power in the Patriot League again.

The Patriot League announced its all-league selections on Wednesday and Lehigh senior Shannon Spafford was named to the second team All-Patriot League.  This is the first time in her career that Spafford has received an all-league honor.  The senior middle blocker had a career year in 2007, setting new highs in kills, service aces, total blocks and digs.
