The Lehigh track and field teams finished up a busy weekend at the 2010 New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Saturday night. The Mountain Hawks battled it out with over 140 different colleges in the New York Armory and put up some good results against tough competition.

After consecutive home meets the Lehigh track and field teams will head to New York City for the 2010 New Balance Collegiate Invitational which begins Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. This will be the second time the entire team is traveling to an away meet with the first being the Navy Invitational back on January 16.

Senior pole vaulter Ashlee Atwell was named the Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week after leading the Mountain Hawks to a victory over their arch rivals on Saturday in Rauch Fieldhouse. Atwell set a new Lehigh indoor record in the pole vault with a vault of 11’ 9.75” to qualify for ECACs. Her record-breaking vault is tied for a league-best this season.

In front of a large crowd in Rauch Fieldhouse the Lehigh women’s track and field team defeated Lafayette 100-81, while the men were narrowly edged by the Leopards 93-88. The women won 10 of the 17 events and the men were able to take eight of their 17 events.

The Lehigh-Lafayette rivalry will remain indoors and this time it will move to the track. Lehigh and Lafayette will compete this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Rauch Fieldhouse. The long storied track rivalry dates back to 1881 when the first Lehigh intercollegiate track meet took place and the opponent was, of course the Leopards.
