The impending threat of inclement weather has forced the cancellation of Lehigh’s scheduled swimming and diving meet Saturday at Penn State. The Mountain Hawks were slated to wrap-up their dual meet season against the Nittany Lions but travel concerns were created by the threat of a significant winter storm that is expected to hit the region Friday night into Saturday morning.

On the heels of a strong regular season in the pool, Lehigh’s swimming and diving teams were honored for their work in the classroom as both Mountain Hawk squads earned Scholar All-American Awards from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Lehigh’s women were honored for having a 3.26 team grade point average in the fall 2009 semester, while the men were recognized for their 3.13 team GPA in the fall. The CSCAA Scholar All-American honors are awarded to swimming and diving teams that have a minimum 3.0 team GPA.

Weather permitting, the Lehigh swimming and diving teams will return to the pool for the first time in two weeks, when the Mountain Hawks visit Penn State Saturday in their final dual meet of the season. The Mountain Hawks will be looking to finish the dual meet season on a high note and will challenge themselves against a major conference opponent in an attempt to build momentum with the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships now just two weeks away.

The Lehigh swimming and diving teams honored their senior classes prior to Saturday’s final home dual meet against Bucknell. Both Mountain Hawk squads put forth valiant performances and Lehigh’s seniors were sent off with a split against the Bison at Jacobs Pool. The Lehigh men won nine of 16 events to prevail 166.5-131.5, while the women fought hard against one of the top teams in the Patriot League but ultimately fell 182-115.

The Lehigh swimming and diving teams will host their final home meet of the season and get a final look at a Patriot League opponent Saturday when the Mountain Hawks host the Bucknell Bison. Saturday’s meet will be the final meet at Jacobs Pool for 14 Lehigh seniors, as the Lehigh men will be looking to bounce back from their first loss last weekend at Army, while the women need one win in their final two meets to clinch a second straight winning dual season.
