The Lehigh swimming and diving program held its year end banquet on Sunday, April 27 at University Center. The afternoon’s festivities included lunch, remarks from coaches and student athletes and the presentation of both team and departmental awards as the Mountain Hawks looked back on a season that saw the men finish fourth in the Patriot League, while the women swam to a fifth place finish.

Lehigh held its annual Convocation Program on Monday, April 28 at Baker Hall inside the Zoellner Arts Center to look back on the accomplishments of the past year for both team and individual performances. Senior Clark Cohen was one of seven senior student-athletes were honored with Distinguished Achievement Awards.  These recipients are student-athletes who have displayed a high level of scholarship, significant athletic achievement at the league level and beyond and demonstrated service to the institution.  Senior Terry Mongan, a member of the field hockey and swimming programs, was named the Mary O. Hurley Leadership Award winner. 

Lehigh junior Dan Johnson has been named the 2008 Patriot League men’s swimming and diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year as voted on by the league’s sports information directors, it was announced Friday. Johnson is a two-time All-Patriot League selection in the pool for the Mountain Hawks, and is the reigning Patriot League champion in the 200 yard freestyle. In the classroom, Johnson carries a 3.53 cumulative grade point average as a mechanical engineering major.

Lehigh placed four student-athletes on the All-Patriot League swimming and diving teams, announced by the league on Wednesday. Junior Dan Johnson, the 2008 Patriot League Champion in the 200 yard freestyle, garnered first team honors, with three individual podium finishes. Johnson is joined on the men’s team by senior Jonathan Kearney, who earned second team honors. Junior Melanie Rolish and freshman Lauren Kindrick earned second team accolades for the Lehigh women.

The 2008 Patriot League Championships came to a conclusion Saturday night at Navy’s Lejeune Hall. Lehigh totaled three silver medals on the final day of competition as the Mountain Hawk men placed fourth overall, while the women placed fifth. Junior Dan Johnson posted his third top-two finish of the championships, while senior Jon Kearney and junior Melanie Rolish added second place finishes for the Brown and White.
