Lehigh student-athletes are continuing their strong work with Student-Athletes Leading Social Change (SALSC), highlighted by the third-annual “Jail Bail” Phone-A-Thon held last Friday (Jan. 20) in Taylor Gym. Angelo DiGiacinto (swimming) and Liz Lucas (softball) are this year’s leaders while a number of additional student-athletes are heavily involved as well.
Lehigh head coach Fran Troyan has announced that the Mountain Hawks softball program will host a pair of winter clinics, dedicated to hitting, pitching and defense. The first clinic is open to softball players ages 7-17 and scheduled for Sunday, January 29. The second clinic is being held on Sunday, February 5, and is specifically designed for players with significant softball experience.
Three early season tournaments and five contests against teams that reached the NCAA regionals last season highlight the challenging 2012 Lehigh softball schedule announced Tuesday by head coach Fran Troyan. The Mountain Hawks won their 11th Patriot League tournament title last May and enter the new season gunning for their seventh NCAA regional appearance in the last nine years.
This summer’s one-two punch of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee made its mark on the East Coast, leaving buildings destroyed due to winds and flooding. For Lehigh softball senior Tenley Halaquist, it hit close to home. With her town of Windsor, N.Y. battered by flooding, Halaquist took action to help her hometown, while also helping spread the Lehigh name.
The Lehigh softball team recently completed its fall season, as the Mountain Hawks returned to work in defense of another Patriot League championship. The Mountain Hawks captured their league-leading 11th Patriot League softball crown in 2011 and advanced to the NCAA regional tournament for the sixth time in the last eight years.
