With temperatures warming up the Lehigh rowing team picked a great time to begin its outdoor training as the Mountain Hawks headed to South Carolina earlier this week to begin spring practice.  The rowers departed campus on Friday, March 5 and headed to Lake Marion for a week of on-and-off the water workouts.  Lehigh has been hard at work conducting three practices a day as the rowers work their way towards the season opener, which will take place on March 12.

The Lehigh rowers are currently hard at work indoors as they work out on the erg machines in addition to lifting weights and conducting conditioning sessions, but come early March the Mountain Hawks will head down south for their annual training trip.  Lehigh heads to Summerton, South Carolina on Friday, March 5 for a week long stay at Camp Bob Cooper where the team will be put through a strenuous week of on-the-water work in addition to numerous team bonding activities.

The Lehigh rowing program hosted the annual South Mountain Erg Sprints on Saturday, February 20 inside of Grace Hall.  The entire Mountain Hawks’ roster competed in the event, as well as several alumni and friends and family members of the rowing program in addition to members of the rowing team from SUNY Binghamton.

The 2010 South Mountain Erg Sprints will take place on Saturday, February 20 inside of Grace Hall on Lehigh’s Goodman Campus.  Registration and warm ups will begin at 8:45 AM with the first race slated for 10:00.  Those interested in competing can take part in a number of men’s and women’s combined events, including the open 2000 meters, collegiate 2000 meters, coxswains 1000 meters, masters/alumni 1000 meters and the open/collegiate 500 meters.  For more information or to register for the event, please contact Lehigh assistant coach Denise Julian at dmj7@lehigh.edu.

The Lehigh rowers will return to the water this weekend as the Mountain Hawks host a Brown and White inter-squad competition at the Steiner/Steinberg Boathouse.   The day begins at 8:00 as Tom Flynn ’90 addresses current team members.  Flynn was instrumental in the launching and development of the rowing program at Lehigh and has been a loyal supporter for years.  Following Flynn’s time with the team the Mountain Hawks will hit the water beginning at 8:30 for six races, while at 9:30 off-the-water competitions commence.  The final off-the-water competition will get underway at 10:00.
