The Lehigh men’s soccer team placed 11 on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, which was announced Thursday. Four Mountain Hawks earned at least a 3.60 GPA, landing them on Lehigh’s Dean List as well, capping off Lehigh's stellar season on and off the pitch. Senior architecture major Christopher Rabey led the way with a 4.00 GPA, his second straight season on the league honor roll.
The Lehigh men’s soccer team marked the end of its season with its annual banquet on Sunday, Jan. 15, in the University Center. The banquet was a chance to celebrate a season that saw the Mountain Hawks go 8-4-6 with five student-athletes being named All-Patriot League honorees. In addition, three awards were presented to the student-athletes who excelled on and off the field.
Dr. Thomas Fleck, Jr., who recorded a 57-52-10 record over nine years while at the helm for the Lehigh men’s soccer team, passed away on December 24, 2011, after a long battle with dementia. Fleck led the Mountain Hawks to the 1971 MAC Championship as Lehigh finished the season ranked No. 16 nationally. His memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21st at 1 p.m. in Florida.
Following a strong season on and off the field, the Lehigh men’s soccer team was recognized for its work in the classroom with a 2010-11 NSCAA Academic Award, as announced earlier this month. The Mountain Hawks were one of only 220 men’s teams across Division I, II and II honored for posting a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Lehigh men’s soccer senior back Kevin Strunk was named an Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Men’s Soccer First Team All-Star, as announced by the ECAC Wednesday. Strunk was one of 11 players named to the First Team as the accolades continue to pour in for the Dowingtown, Pa. native.
