Men’s lacrosse head coach Kevin Cassese was recently honored as Lehigh University’s 2008 Ibis of Service award winner.  The award is given to a person that exhibits great dedication to a lifestyle of servant leadership.  Through their experiences and wisdom this person teaches others how to serve and lead while serving, simultaneously empowering students to reach out to the community and each other.  Through an enthusiastic presence this recipient also educates fellow servants first on the needs of the community they are seeking to impact and secondly focuses on doing meaningful action. The award is given by the University’s Community Service Office.

Lehigh held its annual Convocation Program on Monday, April 28 at Baker Hall inside the Zoellner Arts Center to look back on the accomplishments of the past year for both team and individual performances.  Senior Stuart Baxter was named the Marlene “Linny” Fowler Service Award winner.  Baxter served as co-chair of the C.O.A.C.H. program as well as a member of the student-athlete executive council.  In addition, Baxter served on the Adopt-a-Family committee and the MS committee which staged several events throughout the year to help raise awareness about the illness.

Senior captain Dan Honeywell was named to the 2008 All-Patriot League First Team, it was announced on Wednesday.  A defender, Honeywell led the Mountain Hawks in caused turnovers with 14 this season and the New York native also added 42 ground balls, good for second best on the squad.  Honeywell started all 15 games for Lehigh in 2008 and emerged as the leader of a defense that held nine opponents to less than ten goals.  This marks the 15th consecutive season that Lehigh has placed at least one player on the All-League teams.

Before an Ulrich Sports Complex record crowd of over 1,600 people, Lehigh took on No. 10 Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.  The Mountain Hawks hung tough with the Fighting Irish but were ultimately done in by a 6-0 second quarter run by the visitors, as Notre Dame came away with a 14-7 victory.  Ryan Hoff scored four goals and dished out one assist as the Irish improve to 9-2 overall with the win.  Brian Bienemann and Ricky Cornetta netted two scores each for the Brown and White as its 2008 season comes to a close at 6-9 overall.

Lehigh will close out its 2008 season on Sunday afternoon when the Mountain Hawk welcome No. 10 Notre Dame to the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Lehigh was last in action on Friday April 5th when the Brown and White lost to Patriot League opponent Bucknell 11-6.  Sunday’s game marks the seventh time this season Lehigh will face a nationally ranked opponent and the fourth at home.
