Behind a strong second day performance, Lehigh climbed out of a fifth place tie and shot a 318 to finish third overall at the 2008 Patriot League Golf Championship, played on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.  Junior Will Robinson (78, 77, 84 = 239), sophomore Steve Suarez (82, 80, 78 = 240) and junior Shane Gilroy (83, 80, 78 = 241) each finished in the top-15 individually as the Mountain Hawks shot the third lowest score in Sunday’s final round, just one stroke behind Bucknell.  Navy captured the 2008 championship with a team score of 925 (311, 307, 307) and the Midshipmen were followed by Bucknell (942), Lehigh (960), Holy Cross (962), Colgate (965), Army (969) and Lafayette (978).

After 36 holes of golf on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club, Lehigh sits in a tie for fifth place with a score of 642 (325, 317) at the 2008 Patriot League Championship.  The Mountain Hawks are tied with the Holy Cross Crusaders (318, 324 = 642).  Navy is the overall leader with a two-round score of 618 (311, 307) and the Mids are followed by Bucknell (322, 303 = 625), Colgate (322, 313 = 635), Army (317, 323 = 640), Lehigh (642), Holy Cross (642) and Lafayette (343, 315 = 658).  Colgate’s Richard Hayes is the individual leader after shooting a 147 (76, 71), while Lehigh’s top competitor is junior Will Robinson in sixth place with a 155 (78, 77).

Lehigh will host the 2008 Patriot League Golf Championship this weekend at Saucon Valley Country Club.  The championship will consist of a two-day, 54-hole format and will be played on the 7,051-yard, 72-par Grace Course.  The seven participating schools will play back-to-back 18-hole rounds on Saturday and finish off with another round of 18 on Sunday.  Six golfers from each school will compete for each team, with the low four scores in each round used for team scoring.  This marks the third time Lehigh has hosted the event, after previously holding it at Saucon Valley in 1996 and again in 2003.

Junior Will Robinson shot a 78 and finished third overall to lead Lehigh to the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational crown on Tuesday afternoon at Saucon Valley Country Club on the Weyhill Course.  The Mountain Hawks posted a 401 team score, which was one stroke ahead of archrival Lafayette (402).  Muhlenberg (403) and Moravian (405) also competed in the tournament.  Duncan Zeiders and Chad Lubart both shot a 79 for Lehigh in its final tuneup before this weekend’s Patriot League Championship.

Lehigh took part in the Navy Invitational this weekend and the Mountain Hawks finished 12th out of 18 participating schools with a two-round score of 617 (302, 315).  The host Midshipmen won the team title with a score of 589 (296, 293), which was the same score as Iona (589).  The two teams tried to have a playoff to determine the winner, but the weather did not cooperate and so the tiebreaker went to individual scores, in which Navy had the edge.  George Washington (592), Florida Gulf Coast (596) and Johnson and Wales (597) rounded out the top-five.  Junior Will Robinson once again led the Brown and White individually as he shot a 150 (75, 75) and tied for 23rd place overall.
