For the sixth time this season freshman C.J. McCollum has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday.  McCollum notched his first career double-double in Lehigh’s win over American this past weekend as he totaled 19 points and a season high 13 rebounds in the Mountain Hawks’ 77-65 victory in the nation’s capital.  With this latest selection, a Lehigh player has been named Rookie of the Week each week since the start of the new year last month.  McCollum has garnered four of those awards, while classmate Gabe Knutson has been honored with two.

The Lehigh men’s basketball game at Lafayette, slated for Sunday, February 21, will be shown live nationwide on CBS College Sports.  The Mountain Hawks and Leopards will tip things off at 2:00 that afternoon inside the Kirby Sports Center in Easton.  Lehigh is currently in first place in the Patriot League and defeated its archrival 75-57 on January 23 at Stabler Arena.  The Mountain Hawks have won 11 of their past 13 games overall and sit at 6-2 in the Patriot League.

Lehigh snapped American’s 20-game home Patriot League win streak on Saturday afternoon with a 77-65 victory over the Eagles at Bender Arena in the nation’s capital.  Four Mountain Hawks scored in double figures led by senior Zahir Carrington with 20 points, while freshman C.J. McCollum recorded his first career double-double with 19 points and a career-best 13 rebounds.  With the win Lehigh remains in first place in the Patriot League with a 6-2 league mark and the Mountain Hawks equal their win total from all of last season as they improve to 15-8 overall.  Vlad Moldoveanu scored a game-high 24 points for the Eagles who fall to 7-16 overall and 4-4 in the league.

Lehigh closes out a tough three game road trip with a visit to Washington, D.C. on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks take on the American Eagles at Bender Arena.  Lehigh has been off since last weekend when the Brown and White knocked Holy Cross off in Massachusetts for the first time since 1998 with a dominating 78-60 victory.  Freshman Gabe Knutson led the way with a season best 31 point effort  and the Mountain Hawks converted 17 Holy Cross turnovers into 25 points.  American closed the first half of league play on a high note as the Eagles are riding a three-game winning streak, which includes a 76-66 victory over Lafayette last Saturday in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Lehigh senior captain Marquis Hall has been named one of ten men’s finalists for the 2009-10 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, it was announced on Wednesday.  To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition.  Joining Hall on the list is an accomplished group of student-athletes from schools such as Gonzaga, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Texas, Purdue, Michigan State, Duke, Drake and Northern Iowa.  Nationwide balloting begins immediately to determine the winner and Lehigh fans can vote for Hall by visiting the award’s official website, located here.
