Former Lehigh standout Matt McBride is now just one step from the Major Leagues. The 2006 Patriot League Player of the Year was transferred from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus last Thursday to replace injured outfielder Ezequiel Carrera on the Clippers roster.
The Lehigh baseball program has announced the addition of 12 student-athletes that will join the Mountain Hawks in the fall. Head coach Sean Leary and assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Brian Hirschberg have put together a pitching-heavy class includes five newcomers from around the Lehigh Valley, with a total of six states represented.

With July just a week old, it has already been a profitable month for the two former Lehigh baseball standouts that are currently playing professionally in the minor leagues. Former Mountain Hawk slugger Matt McBride was named the Eastern League’s Player of the Week after hitting six home runs in a five-game span for the Akron Aeros, the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
The Lehigh baseball program finished its 2010 season with a trip to the Patriot League semifinals, marking the Mountain Hawks first tournament appearance since their 2006 Patriot League Championship. The Mountain Hawks finished with a record of 23-27, including a 12-8 record against Patriot League opponents, good for second place in the regular season standings.
