Cimino's Walk-Off Lifts Lehigh Past Georgia Southern; Rematch With Alabama Rained Out

2/11/2023 4:57:00 PM | Softball

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Emily Cimino did it again. One day after her three-run seventh-inning double lifted Lehigh past No. 7/9 Alabama, Cimino drilled a two-run walk-off double to lead the Mountain Hawks past Georgia Southern 4-3 Saturday at Rhoads Stadium. Saturday's scheduled rematch between the Mountain Hawks and Crimson Tide was canceled due to inclement weather.

Lehigh is headed home with a 3-0 mark and its first-ever top 10 win.

The Mountain Hawks loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning and took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by first-year Sydney Parlett that scored senior Carley Barjaktarovich.

Georgia Southern (0-4) tied the game in the top of the second with a two-out rally that saw Emily Greek bring home the tying run with an RBI single.

Senior Josie Charles put Lehigh back in front in the fourth inning with a single through the right side that plated junior Brooke Cannon.

Lehigh maintained its lead into the top of the seventh when Georgia Southern capitalized on a Mountain Hawk error to put the tying and go-ahead runs aboard. Greek struck again with the tying RBI single and Olivia Creamer scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the seventh, Charles led off with an infield single, moved to second on a sacrifice and took third when first-year Lily Owens reached on an error. With two on and one out, Cimino drilled an 0-2 pitch into left center for a double, bringing home the tying and winning runs. Cimino is up to seven RBIs on the young season with her two Saturday following a five-RBI effort against Alabama on Friday.

Lehigh out-hit Georgia Southern 8-3 and took advantage of four Eagle errors.

Charles and junior Amanda Greaney both registered two hits.

Junior Katelyn Young started in the circle and was charged with three runs (one earned) on three hits with a walk and six strikeouts. First-year Chloe Hess got the final out of the seventh inning and was credited with her second victory.

The Mountain Hawks will head to Virginia next weekend for five games at the HU/NSU Tour Classic, Feb. 17-19 with games split between Norfolk and Hampton, Va.
