"We're super thrilled and proud of the team for the outcome," said head coach Lauren Calabrese. "To score four goals in a tournament game and have a shutout is tremendous. We're hoping we can continue with the momentum we created today, so overall, I'm really happy."
Lehigh opened up the game with an early goal from senior Ryelle Shuey to take the 1-0 lead. In the 24th minute, Shuey found herself in the right place at the right time, grabbing the ball from just outside the six-yard box and placing the ball over the head of Navy goalkeeper Mattie Gallagher.
"She's really hitting her stride right now," Calabrese said. "She's incredibly reliable in the back and has that ability to score goals. It's not surprising but I'm super happy for her."— Lehigh W. Soccer (@LehighWSoccer) October 30, 2022

The Mountain Hawks continued to bring the offensive intensity going into the second half. The Mountain Hawks added one final goal in the 79th minute to secure the quarterfinal win. In the 80th minute, first-year Dakota Russell crossed the ball into the 18-yard box where a Navy defender got a foot on it. As the ball bounced off of the Navy defender, senior Chloe Sherman found herself right outside the six-yard box, hitting the ball off of the right post and into the net.The Offensive Player of the Year doing what she does best... scoring goals 🔥

"Coach Gina has done a really great job coaching with the back line and working on our defensive principles," said Calabrese. "Right up until the final whistle the team was communicating and that was really great to see."
The Mountain Hawks led the Midshipmen 17-10 in shots while Navy led Lehigh 8-2 in corners. First-year goalkeeper Maggie Ousouljoglou tallied a career-high seven saves for the Mountain Hawks while Gallagher finished with three for Navy.
Lehigh improves to 8-6-3 with its second consecutive win over Navy. The Midshipmen end the season with a 8-8-3 record.
The Mountain Hawks will travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army on Thursday to compete in their first Patriot League semifinal since 2018. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
