Lehigh lands three on All-Patriot League softball teams

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three Lehigh softball student-athletes earned All-Patriot League recognition as the league announced its all-league softball teams and major award winners on Tuesday. Senior outfielder Nicole Yozzo picked up her third career All-Patriot League honor as she was named to the first team for the first time. Sophomore second baseman Mary-Hannah Smith earned second team honors for the second straight year and sophomore pitcher Parker Boyd garnered her first career all-league award by earning a spot on the second team.
The All-Patriot League teams and major awards are voted on by the league's seven head coaches.
Yozzo earned her third all-league honor largely on her speed and stolen base prowess. She leads the Patriot League with a school and league single-season record 44 stolen bases, double the total of the second-ranked player (teammate Ashley Rabago). In March, Yozzo also became Lehigh's career leader in stolen bases and surpassed the 100 stolen base mark for her career last week.
The reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, Yozzo also leads Lehigh with a .333 batting average, 29 runs scored and 46 hits. She went 5-for-5 in Sunday's regular season finale against Holy Cross, tying the school record for hits in a game, setting a school record with four stolen bases, and breaking the league's single season stolen base record.
Smith was recognized for the second straight year for her efforts as the No. 3 hitter in Lehigh's lineup and the Mountain Hawks' top run producer. Lehigh's leader with three home runs and 29 RBIs, Smith finished the regular season with a .301 batting average. In 18 Patriot League regular season contests, Smith batted .315, good for second on the Mountain Hawks, with 12 RBIs. She homered in series-opening wins over Boston University and Bucknell, the top two seeds in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.
Boyd earned all-league recognition for the first time after emerging as Lehigh's top performer in the pitcher's circle. After starting the year 3-8 against tough competition in early season tournaments, Boyd is 14-3 with a 1.72 ERA since the start of Patriot League play, which includes a 9-3 record and 1.66 ERA during the league regular season. Overall, Boyd is 17-11 with a 2.59 ERA. She is tied for second in the league in wins and ranks second in the Patriot League with 167 strikeouts. Boyd has saved her best for late in the season, with three complete game shutouts in her last four starts, highlighted by a one-hitter at Army on April 28. In her last appearance, Boyd allowed just two runs on nine hits in 13 innings with a career-high 14 strikeouts in a win over Holy Cross.
