
Lehigh tied for eighth after opening 18 holes at Wildcat Invitational

MALVERN, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team opened up action at Villanova's Wildcat Invitational with an opening round 298 Monday at White Manor Country Club. The Mountain Hawks were one of 11 teams in the 19-team field to break 300 as they sit in a tie for eighth place after round one of the 36-hole event.
The defending team champions in the event, Lehigh is tied for eighth with rival Lafayette, 16 strokes behind front-running Drexel. St. John's and St. Peter's are tied for second place in striking distance for the field at 290.
Sophomore Ryan Kelly led the way for the Mountain Hawks on Monday, carding four birdies and five bogeys for a one over par 72. Kelly is tied for seventh place.
Senior Billy Johns is two strokes behind Kelly and is tied for 27th after a round of 74. Johns made three birdies in his round.
Junior Johnny Hsu and sophomore Owen Quinn are tied for 55th place with rounds of 76. Hsu carded just one birdie in his round, while Quinn made birdies on 16 and 18.
Lehigh's fifth scoring player is junior Eamon Marone, who sits in a tie for 97th place after a round of 83.
Sophomore Chris Pollan is competing as an individual and sits in a tie for 67th place after shooting 77.
David Powers of St. Peter's holds the individual lead with an opening round of three under par 68. He leads Adam Mistretta of Drexel by one stroke.
The Wildcat Invitational concludes with the final round Tuesday, beginning at 10 a.m. from White Manor Country Club.
