Sagi awarded Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second time in three weeks, Lehigh women's lacrosse freshman goalkeeper Samantha Sagi has been named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. Sagi continued her stellar play, stopping 24-of-35 (68.6 percent) of the shots sent her way over two games as Lehigh clinched a Patriot League Tournament berth with a 12-6 win over Lafayette Wednesday before clinching a home game in the Patriot League Quarterfinals with a 14-5 win vs. Bucknell Sunday.

Sagi, who also won Patriot League Rookie of the Week in February, began last week with 14 saves, allowing just six goals vs. Lafayette. She stopped 11-of-13 shots sent her way in the second half as Sagi totally shut the door on any Lafayette hopes of a comeback. The Leopards held a 21-16 edge in second-half shots, but Lehigh outscored Lafayette 4-3 in the second due in large part to Sagi's efforts. In the end, the Lehigh defense held Lafayette to its second-lowest goal total of the season as the Leopards scored single-digit goals for just the fourth time in its first 14 games.

The Elkridge, Md. native continued to impress vs. Bucknell, tallying 10 stops while allowing just five goals. She stopped 4-of-7 in the first half and 6-of-8 in the second. Sagi added six groundballs and a caused turnover over the two games last week.

Sagi has now tallied double-figure saves in four straight contests, stopping 49-of-77 in that span (63.4 percent). For the season, she owns a 10.47 goals against average and 0.475 save percentage.

In addition, senior Haley Wentzel and sophomore Sondra Dickey garnered honorable mention recognition on the Patriot League weekly honor roll. Wentzel tied a career-high five goals in each contest while Dickey's week was highlighted by a career-high eight points and five assists against Bucknell.

The Mountain Hawks will wrap up the regular season at American this Saturday. Opening draw is set for 12 p.m. Lehigh will then host a Patriot League Quarterfinal contest on Tuesday, May 1.
