Lehigh tops Hartford, falls to FDU in match play at FDU Checkmate Challenge

GALLOWAY, N.J. – Wins from junior Reagan Jahn, sophomore Minuette Laessig and freshman Alexis Browne led the Lehigh women's golf team to a 3-2 win over Hartford Saturday in the opening round of the FDU Checkmate Challenge match play event at Seaview Golf Club. The win moved the third-seeded Mountain Hawks into the semifinals, where they were defeated 5-0 by No. 2 seed and tournament host Fairleigh Dickinson.
Lehigh will now play No. 4 seed Dartmouth Sunday morning for third place while FDU will face Navy for the championship.
The Mountain Hawks' opening round match with Hartford went down to the final group, with Browne clinching the match with her 3 & 2 victory over Devyn Howe at the No. 5 position. Jahn played in the No. 1 position and beat Maria Loza 2 up, while Laessig defeated Brooke MacKinnon on the final hole at No. 3.
Lehigh was unable to carry momentum into the semifinals as Fairleigh Dickinson won all five matches. Jahn and senior Megan Moylan both lost on the 18th hole, while the Knights used more comfortable wins at the No. 3 and No. 5 positions to move into Sunday's finals.
Tee times for Sunday's third place match will begin just after 8:30 a.m.
