Tewaaraton Award Announcement

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a stellar start to the season, owning 42 points through nine games, Lehigh men's lacrosse junior Andrew Pettit has been named to the Watch List for the Tewaaraton Award, which annually honors the top college lacrosse player in the United States. Pettit was one of eight additions to the list, putting him into consideration for the top award in the sport.

Pettit becomes the first Lehigh player named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List since Dan Taylor was named one of 25 nominees in 2015. Prior to Taylor, David DiMaria was one of the 25 nominees in 2013. Several other Mountain Hawks have been named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List: Ryan Snyder (2013), Dante Fantoni (2012 and 2013), Matt Poillon (2013, 2014 and 2015) and Ty Souders (2014).

Pettit has multiple points in every game this season, including multiple goals in eight of nine contests (and 21 of his last 24 games dating back to his freshman season). The Wilmington, Delaware native has tallied five or more points six times in 2018, including on Tuesday at No. 18/19 Hofstra when he recorded seven points (three goals, four assists) against the nation's top defense, helping the Mountain Hawks to a big 13-8 win. Pettit alone had a hand in more goals (seven) than the 6.33 goals per game the Pride were allowing entering the contest. Pettit also recorded seven points against Holy Cross (two goals, five assists) and five points vs. NJIT, at North Carolina, at Army West Point and at Lafayette. At Army, Pettit scored three consecutive goals to begin the fourth quarter, turning a one-goal Lehigh deficit into a two-goal lead, on the way to a 9-7 road win against the No. 12 Black Knights. He was later recognized with Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors, and was named to the USILA National Team of the Week.

Recently named an assistant captain, leads the Mountain Hawks in goals (25), assists (17) and points (42). The field will be narrowed to 25 nominees on Apr. 26 then five finalists will be announced on May 10 and invited to The 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 31.

Pettit and the Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday when they host Navy in a big Patriot League showdown. Opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m. on Service Electric 2 Sports and the Patriot League Network.
