
Lehigh Leads League with 18 Named to Patriot League Academic Honor Roll

PATRIOT LEAGUE RELEASE
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team led the Patriot League with 18 student-athletes named to the 2017 Patriot League Baseball Academic Honor Roll as announced by the league on Thursday. To be eligible for the Winter/Sprint Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) during the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's 15 winter and spring championship sports.
In addition to leading the league in total honorees, Lehigh also paced the field with five of the league's 10 student-athletes who compiled a 4.0 GPA during the spring term. The five 4.0 honorees was the most by any Lehigh team during its respected semester of competition in the 2016-17 academic year.
Junior Chris Kersey was one of the five Mountain Hawks to post a 4.0 in the spring term. The finance major is now a three-time academic honor roll honoree.
Sophomores Ethan Frohman, Ryan Malloy and Jeff Shanfeldt all posted 4.0 terms in the spring and all made their second-straight appearance on the honor roll. Frohman compiled a 4.0 GPA throughout the 2016-17 academic year, while Malloy has posted a 4.0 in each of his last three semesters.
Freshman Mike Maguire rounded out the group of 4.0 Mountain Hawks from the spring semester and completed his first year on campus with a 3.70 cumulative GPA.
Out of the 18 Mountain Hawks to qualify for academic honor roll, 10 student-athletes posted a GPA of 3.60 or better in the spring to also earn a spot on the Lehigh Dean's List.
Seniors Connor Donovan, Jacen Nalesnik and David Young capped off their careers in the Brown and White with a successful season both on and off the field. All three were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, in addition to earning All-League and Academic All-League honors in the 2017 season.
In total, the Patriot League had 72 baseball student-athletes named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Lafayette came in second place in the six-team field with 15 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Bucknell added 12, Army West Point and Holy Cross each finished with 10 members on the honor roll and Navy rounded out the group with seven.
