PATRIOT LEAGUE RELEASE

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball squad capped off its final week of competition for the 2017 season by sweeping all three Patriot League weekly awards for the first time in program history as the league announced the winners on Tuesday. Senior outfielder Jacen Nalesnik earned Player of the Week honors, sophomore right-handed pitcher Mike Gibbons captured Pitcher of the Week accolades and freshman righty Jason Reynolds was tabbed the Rookie of the Week.

In his final week of play with the Brown and White, Nalesnik posted a .353 (6-for-17) batting average to go along with a .588 slugging percentage and a .421 on-base percentage. The senior led the team in RBI on the week with seven, while tying for the team lead in total hits (6) and batting average (.353). He scored a total of five runs and racked up 12 total bases. He also compiled nine putouts with a 1.000 fielding percentage from his right field position.

Nalesnik hit a home run in the 15-5 win at Saint Peter's last Wednesday and finished the season tied for the program's single-season record with 13. The Lehighton, Pa. native finished as the Patriot League leader in home runs (13), slugging percentage (.609) and total bases (117) at the end of the regular season.

Gibbons closed out his sophomore campaign by picking up the win in a relief appearance at Saint Peter's. The righty was highly affective for the Mountain Hawks as he tossed 3.0 scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits while striking out four and walking none. Gibbons compiled a 0.00 earned-run average on the week with a 0.67 WHIP as opponents hit .182 against him.

Freshman starting pitcher Reynolds posted another solid effort in his last start of his rookie campaign. The 6-foot-3 righty went 5.0 innings in game two of a three-game set at Longwood. He surrendered just three earned runs on five hits while racking up six strikeouts to just one walk.

The rookie suffered a tough-luck loss in a 7-4 defeat on Saturday as he received no run support while surrendering four total runs in his five innings of work. Reynolds led all Lehigh pitchers with his six strikeouts on the week and has averaged over five strikeouts in his last four starts, while averaging just 1.5 walks during that same span.

The Player of the Week honor is the second for Nalesnik in his career and the first weekly award of the season for the senior slugger. Gibbons and Reynolds received their first career Patriot League weekly honors.

The Mountain Hawks finished the 2017 season with a total of 10 Patriot League weekly awards, which breaks the previous program record of eight set in 2003. Navy led the way this season with 11 weekly awards. Lehigh tied Bucknell for the most Pitcher of the Week selections with four on the season.
