BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After the Lehigh women's lacrosse team won for the seventh time in its last eight games Saturday, senior goalkeeper Taylor Tvedt has won the Patriot League Defender of the Week award, as announced on Monday. Tvedt finished Saturday's game at Army West Point with eight saves, six groundballs and two caused turnovers to win her first-career Patriot League weekly award.
Â
On Saturday, Tvedt made eight saves on 16 shots on net, posting at least a .500 save percentage for the seventh time this season. She has at least eight saves in 10-of-12 contests so far in 2017. She also added a season-high six groundballs, her most since notching seven last year at Boston University. Tvedt's two caused turnovers tied a career high.
Â
Lehigh held Army scoreless for a stretch of 16:51 in the second half, outscoring the Black Knights 7-0 in that span. This season, Tvedt owns a 9.84 goals against average (28th in the country) and a .484 save percentage (22nd nationally). This marks the Mountain Hawks' second Patriot League Defender of the Week award this season; junior Kierstyn Voiro also won the award following the team's home opener against Wagner.
Â
Senior Julianne D'Orazio also garnered honorable mention recognition on the weekly honor roll after posting two goals, one assist, five groundballs, one draw control and one caused turnover at Army. In the process, D'Orazio also eclipsed 50 career points and 100 career groundballs.
The Mountain Hawks will face their toughest league opponent of the year Saturday in a home contest against Loyola. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. The Greyhounds have never lost a Patriot League game, winning 36 straight league contests since joining in 2014. Last season, Lehigh took Loyola to overtime down in Baltimore before falling, 14-13.
