Complete Senior CLASS Award Release

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Enjoying tremendous success as an all-around student-athlete, Lehigh men's lacrosse senior Cody Triolo has been named a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, as announced on Thursday. Triolo is one of just 20 men's lacrosse players nation-wide named a candidate and one of just two from the Patriot League. Lehigh and Syracuse are the only two schools to feature a Senior CLASS Award candidate in each of the last five seasons.

Casey Eidenshink was named a candidate last season, Dan Taylor in 2015, Ty Souders in 2014 and Ryan Snyder in 2013. Jonathan Stumpf was also a candidate in 2011. Both Stumpf and Souders were named finalists for the award.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Triolo has enjoyed incredible success in the classroom, currently owning a cumulative GPA of 3.97 in the IBE (Integrated Business and Engineering) Program (specifically, Civil Engineering and Finance). He was named Lehigh men's lacrosse's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the spring of 2015 and has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List (for a GPA of 3.6+) each and every season. Triolo has garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award and owns three perfect 4.0 semesters.

Triolo has impressive experience in his field of study, most recently interning with Michael Baker International, Civil Engineering Consulting. While there, he worked under the Vice President of the Greater Philadelphia Area and P.E.'s on both the business and engineering side of Civil Engineering. Triolo focused on structures, strategic planning, evening/cost analysis, project management, transportation and trails. The previous summer, Triolo interned with Spartan Polymers, Resin Distributor, learning about the plastics trading industry and creating case studies for Spartan Polymers to present to a variety of polypropylene/ethylene suppliers to prove loyalty, ratability and price consistency. After his days as an undergraduate, Triolo is planning on obtaining his Master's Degree in Structural Engineering, looking to get into the field of Structural Engineering.

Triolo has emerged as one of the team's top leaders, being named one of three captains for the 2017 season. He is one of three lacrosse players in the Integrated Business and Engineering program, which requires an even additional commitment, a commitment that rubs off on everyone around him. Triolo is part of the Emerging Leaders and Leadership Legacies Program since the fall of 2015 as he was nominated and identified by the athletic department and head coach as having leadership potential and qualities. As part of the programs, Triolo has collaborated with other student-athletes to become better and more effective leaders.

Triolo has also been a Student-Athlete Mentor since the spring of his freshman year, transitioning first-year student-athlete to Lehigh through leading workshops and group "huddles." Triolo's leadership has gone back since his high school days, serving as president of his high school graduating class and two-sport varsity captain (lacrosse and ice hockey).

Triolo garnered the Class of 1904 Scholarship Award as a junior, given to an outstanding member of a junior class on the basis of character and qualifications indicating promise of future leadership. Triolo has also received the Contribution to Student Life Award, recognizing students who have significantly contributed to improving the quality of student life at Lehigh through involvement and leadership.

Triolo has given back as Lehigh Lacrosse player. Just a few days into every fall semester, the Mountain Hawks hold their annual community service kickoff for the City of Bethlehem Parks and Recreation. This year, the team helped Bethlehem Parks and Recreation clean up around the Bethlehem Municipal Ice Rink. Triolo and the Mountain Hawks also host Community Night every fall when Lehigh opened its doors to all members of the community for an hour-long free lacrosse clinic. In addition, the Mountain Hawks spend time with the Reading Rocks program at local Donegan Elementary School. The whole team spends approximately one hour with the students, helping them read before getting to know the youngsters through playing games and other activities.

Lehigh's fall weekend of outside competition in the fall came at the HEADstrong University City Classic. The HEADstrong Foundationâ„¢ is a 501(c)(3) committed to improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families through providing essential programs and services. Lehigh, along with every Lehigh Athletics team, took part in Adopt-A- Family where the Mountain Hawks provided a holiday for a local underprivileged family. The process included shopping for gifts, wrapping them and delivering them in early December.

Triolo has emerged into a strong contributor for the Mountain Hawks, seeing consistent time in the midfield. After playing five games as a freshman, he played in 15 games as a sophomore and tallied 12 groundballs and two goals. Both goals came in a big Patriot League win at Holy Cross. Triolo then played 10 games as a junior, missing some time due to injury, seeing time as a two-way midfielder who contributes offensively and defensively. He finished the season with two goals, two assists and five groundballs. Triolo scored a goal at Furman then returned from injury in a homecoming game at Princeton and tallied a goal and assist, also posting an assist vs. Cornell.

As a senior, Triolo has played in all five games with two starts, recording five points (two goals, three assists). In the last game at Colgate, he posted a career-high three points (one goal, two assists) in Lehigh's 11-5 win at Colgate.

The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced in conjunction with the 2017 NCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship in May.

Triolo and the Mountain Hawks return home on Saturday to host No. 11/13 Army West Point at 1 p.m.
