PATRIOT LEAGUE RELEASE
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second-straight week a Lehigh baseball player has been honored with a Patriot League weekly award. This week, senior Connor Donovan has been named the Patriot Player of the Week as the league announced its weekly awards on Tuesday.
Donovan helped lead the Mountain Hawks to a 4-1 record last week, including a four-game sweep over NJIT to open an 11-game home stand for Lehigh. The senior first baseman and pitcher had a stellar performance at the plate and earned his first victory in his second start on the mound this season.
The Yardley, Pa. native accounted for one of Lehigh's four runs in a 6-4 loss at Penn last Tuesday with a solo home run in the fifth to put the team ahead 3-1. Donovan went deep two more times with a home run in each game on Sunday to bring his team-leading total to five on the season. Donovan is tied with Jacen Nalesnik for the team lead in home runs on a team that ranks 20th in the nation with 1.21 home runs per game and 38th in total home runs (23).
For the week, Donovan paced Lehigh in batting average (.471), slugging percentage (1.058), home runs (3) and RBI (8). The senior also earned the victory in Lehigh's home opening game as he started and threw 5.1 innings in game one on Saturday. He allowed just one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Donovan improves to 1-1 in two starts this season with a 2.19 earned-run average in 12.1 innings of work.
Freshman pitcher and last week's Patriot League Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, Levi Stoudt, earned Patriot League Honorable Mention honors this time for his superb performance on the mound in two starts last week. Stoudt combined to toss 9.0 innings, while allowing two runs, just one earned, on seven hits. The rookie righty also struck out seven and walked three in two appearances. Against Penn, Stoudt tossed 3.0 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just two hits and striking out three but did not earn a decision in an eventual loss to the Quakers. He earned a victory against NJIT, tossing 6.0 innings, while allowing one earned run on five hits, while striking out four. Stoudt leads Lehigh with a 1.71 ERA.
Tuesday's home game against La Salle has been pushed back to Wednesday with a start time of 3 p.m. The matchup will be an opening round game of the Liberty Bell Classic.
