D’Orazio and Dickey earn Patriot League weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following strong efforts over a pair of wins, two Lehigh women's lacrosse student-athletes have garnered Patriot League weekly awards, as announced on Monday. Senior Julianne D'Orazio was named the Midfielder of the Week while freshman Sondra Dickey earned Rookie of the Week. The duo helped lead the Mountain Hawks to two impressive road victories last week, 16-6 at VCU and 10-3 at Holy Cross.
 
D'Orazio filled up the stat sheet, finishing the week with four goals, one assist, eight groundballs, seven draw controls and seven caused turnovers. The Bryn Mawr, Pa. native began with a goal, two groundballs, four draw controls and two caused turnovers in last Monday's win at VCU. D'Orazio then sparked the Mountain Hawks to a Patriot League opening victory at Holy Cross Saturday, leading the team in goals (3), points (4), groundballs (6), draw controls (3) and caused turnovers (5). The hat trick marked her first of the season and third of her career. For the season, leads the team with 17 caused turnovers and is second in both groundballs (20) and draw controls (14). D'Orazio currently stands tied for 13th nationally with 2.43 caused turnovers per game.
 
Dickey finished the week with five goals, one assist, five groundballs, five caused turnovers and a draw control. In last Monday's win at VCU, the two-way midfielder tallied career highs in goals (4), points (5), groundballs (4) and caused turnovers (3) while adding a draw control. Dickey went on to post a goal, groundball and two caused turnovers in Saturday's win at Holy Cross. For the season, Dickey owns eight goals, two assists, 13 groundballs, 11 caused turnovers and six draw controls.
 
Both D'Orazio and Dickey played key roles in Lehigh's stellar defensive effort, allowing just nine goals over two games. The Mountain Hawks held Holy Cross to only three goals and just 17 shots on Saturday after the Crusaders entered having scored 36 goals over their previous three games, most recently defeating Ohio State of the Big Ten, 11-10. D'Orazio, Dickey and the Mountain Hawks held Holy Cross to just one goal in the span of 37:42, as Lehigh's offense scored 10 goals to take control of the game. Lehigh's three goals allowed were its fewest allowed against Holy Cross since 1994. Lehigh has now allowed three or fewer goals twice this season and single-digit goals five times (in seven games).
 
Senior Taylor Tvedt also garnered honorable mention laurels, stopping 18-of-24 shots sent her way over the two games (75 percent). She now owns an 8.70 goals against average and 50.9 save percentage on the season.
 
Riding three straight wins, the Mountain Hawks host Columbia on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Lehigh will return to Patriot League play on Saturday when it travels to American University to face the Eagles. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
