Kempton named Patriot League Player of the Week for record seventh time

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For a league-record seventh time this season, Tim Kempton has been named Patriot League Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. With this award, Kempton set a new record for most Patriot League Player of the Week awards in a season, breaking a tie with a pair of current NBA players in Lehigh's C.J. McCollum and Bucknell's Mike Muscala, who play for Portland and Atlanta, respectively.

Last week, Kempton put up tremendous numbers in two convincing victories over Colgate and Army. Against Colgate, Kempton wreaked havoc on both ends of the floor as he put up 22 points, 11 rebounds, and a career-high six steals in an 87-69 victory. It was the most steals by a Lehigh player since McCollum had seven against Colgate in 2012.

On Senior Night against Army, Kempton overcame early foul trouble to notch his 18th double-double of the season, sixth in his last seven games and 51st of his career as he tallied 25 points and 11 rebounds in just 23 minutes of action. Currently sixth in the nation with his 18 double-doubles this season, Kempton moved into third place in school history for career points (currently 1,970) on an emphatic dunk late in the second half to help cap off an 83-69 Lehigh victory.

For the season, Kempton is averaging a career-high 20.0 points and 10.1 rebounds on the year. Kempton is one of just two Division I players in the country to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds this season. The former two-time Patriot League Player of the Year was named first team All-League for a third straight season earlier on Monday.

Lehigh will return to action on Thursday in the Patriot League Quarterfinals against Colgate. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. from Stabler Arena. Tickets are now available online and can be purchased, here.
