APALACHIN, N.Y. – A strong, balanced team effort has the Lehigh men's golf team in the hunt after day one of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational Sunday on the Links at Hiawatha Landing. Lehigh shot 297 on Monday with its top four players shooting 76 or better and are tied for third in a 17-team field heading into the final round.

Reigning individual medalist, sophomore Owen Quinn delivered Lehigh's low round of the day, a one over par 73, and is tied for 12th place. Quinn made two birdies to go along with one bogey and one double.

Sophomore Ryan Kelly and senior Billy Johns both shot two over par 74 and are tied for 18th place. Kelly carded a team-best four birdies, while Johns had two plus an eagle on the par 5 18th.

Junior Johnny Hsu carded a four over par 76 and is tied for 37th place. Classmate Lee Hammerschmidt sits in a tie for 62nd place following a round of 80.

The Mountain Hawks are tied with Monmouth for third place, six strokes behind leaders St. Bonaventure, who posted a 291. Saint Joseph's sits in second position following a 295. Eight of the 17 schools in the field shot 300 or better on Sunday.

Ross Pilliod of Saint Joseph's holds the individual lead at two under par 70. Six individuals are tied for second at 71.
