Decker sets career home run record as Lehigh blanks Albany 9-0

ROCK HILL, S.C – Lehigh senior Morgan Decker went 3-for-3 and became Lehigh's career leader in home runs to help the Mountain Hawks to a 9-0, five-inning win over Albany Sunday in the final game for both teams at the Winthrop Invitational. Decker's 26th career home run and third in as many days sparked the Lehigh offense and helped the junior pitching duo of Christine Campbell and Vicky Lattanzio who combined on a two-hitter.
With the victory, Lehigh's third straight, the Mountain Hawks improve to 7-3 on the season while Albany falls to 3-6.
The Mountain Hawks used a four-run third inning and a five-run fourth to build the big lead.
Junior Alexis Watanabe led off the bottom of the third with a single to center before Decker followed with the record breaking home run, her fourth of the season, to right field to give Lehigh a 2-0 lead. After a walk to Lattanzio, pinch runner Jen Stoll moved to second on a ground out and scored on a RBI single to center by sophomore Katie Schultz. Two batters later, freshman Brianna Gerhardt tripled to right to score Schultz and put Lehigh up 4-0.
Lehigh put the game away with a five-run fourth inning. The Mountain Hawks loaded the bases with one out and senior Carissa Zito brought home two runs with a double to center, while Schultz's second hit of the game, a double to center, plated two more. Gerhardt capped the scoring for Lehigh with a RBI single that scored Schultz.
Campbell allowed just two singles to Albany's Caitlin Cooper in four innings with a walk, a hit batter and two strikeouts, as she improves to 5-1 on the season. Lattanzio fired a 1-2-3 fifth to close out the victory.
Devin Durando took the loss for Albany, allowing eight runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Lehigh heads to Florida for spring break and will play four games at UCF Spring Fling Tournament beginning Saturday in Orlando when the Mountain Hawks face Florida Gulf Coast at 9 a.m. and Indiana State at 1 p.m.
