Mountain Hawks complete competitive first day at Wildcat Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team battled early morning rain and afternoon winds as the Wildcat Invitational began with the first 18 holes of play Monday at White Manor Country Club. The Mountain Hawks shot 19 over par 303 as a team, and while they sit in 10th place out of 21 teams, Lehigh is just five strokes out of second place.
 
Freshman Johnny Hsu carded Lehigh's low round on Monday with a three over par 74. Hsu made four birdies Monday and sits in a tie for 20th place.
 
Defending medalist Billy Johns finished one stroke behind Hsu with a 75. The sophomore opened with a 75. Last year, Johns made his move with a final round 67 and will look to do the same on Tuesday.
 
Also scoring for the Mountain Hawks on Monday were senior David Olexson and freshmen Max Redetzke and Eamon Marone. Redetzke shot 76 and is tied for 39th place, while Olexson is tied for 62nd after a 78. Marone carded an 80 and is tied for 87th place.
 
Freshman Lee Hammerschmidt is competing as an individual and sits in a tie for 98th place after a round of 82.
 
Binghamton's Kyle Wambold shot two under par 69 and holds a one stroke lead over three players.
 
Wagner had three players shoot 72 and two others shoot 73 to take the 18-hole team lead at five over par 289. The Seahawks hold a nine stroke lead over La Salle, Delaware and Bucknell.
 
The Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Villanova, concludes with the final 18 holes Tuesday at White Manor Country Club.
