DAVIDSON, N.C. - Trailing 3-2 midway through the first half, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team scored five of the next six goals to create separation as the Mountain Hawks defeated Davidson 7-5 on Tuesday evening. The win marked Lehigh's fifth straight, including its second road victory in the last four days. Freshman Courtney Henig led the attack with three goals for her third straight hat trick while the defense held an opponent to five or fewer goals for a second straight game and third time in the last four contests.

With the win, the Mountain Hawks improves to 5-1 on the season, continuing their best start since 2010.

"We played very good team defense tonight," said Lehigh head coach Jill Redfern. "We're really happy to come away from our spring break trip 2-0. We still need to work on our draw control and some offensive sets going into our Patriot League schedule."

Along with Henig's three goals, sophomore Haley Wentzel scored twice and junior Allison LaBeau tallied one goal and two assists. Freshman Jane Henderson also scored for a second straight game. Senior Kendall Garden enjoyed a strong all-around game with a groundball, draw control and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Kierstyn Voiro led Lehigh in both groundballs (4) and draw controls (2).

LaBeau opened the scoring at 25:26 of the first half, but the Wildcats responded with the next two goals. Henig answered with her first of the day at 18:32 to even the score.

Trailing 3-2 just over five minutes later, Lehigh rattled off the next three goals, as Wentzel scored with 12:37 and 0:06 of the first half, then Henig scored her second of the evening at 26:26 of the second half. Following a Davidson goal, the Mountain Hawks scored twice in the span of 19 seconds as Henig's third goal of the evening gave Lehigh a 7-4 lead with 14:18 on the clock.

The defense held firm the rest of the way. Davidson scored at the 4:24 mark, but Lehigh held on for the 7-5 victory.

Final shots were 17-14 in favor of Davidson while the Mountain Hawks held a 16-14 edge in groundballs. Draw controls were tied at seven. Junior Taylor Tvedt finished with four saves, across Rose Woolson, who made six.

Lehigh now returns home on Saturday to welcome Holy Cross in the Patriot League opener. Opening draw at the Ulrich Sports Complex is set for 1 p.m.
